Tijdens de kunstnacht 2019 wordt Derde Wal vertegenwoordigt door twee kunstenaars: Sjoerd Mol en Wessel Verrijt. Niet alleen kun je de wandelende processie van Wessel bewonderen in de straten van Nijmegen, maar Sjoerd ontwierp tevens een installatie voor in het Huis van de Nijmeegse Geschiedenis ter ere van 75 jaar Market Garden!
Huis van de Nijmeegse Geschiedenis
Op zondag 17 september 1944 kleurde de Nijmeegse lucht rood en blauw door de parachutes van Amerikaanse geallieerden. Derde Wal heeft de hedendaagse kunstenaar Sjoerd Mol gevraagd speciaal hiervoor een werk te maken: als gedenkteken voor Operation Market Garden heeft hij een grootse interactieve lichtinstallatie gecreëerd in het Huis van de Nijmeegse Geschiedenis, ter aanvulling op de daar lopende tentoonstelling Bivak '44-'45.
Bivak ‘44-‘45 is een tentoonstelling over een ondergrondse schuilplaats waar geallieerde soldaten tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog verbleven. Wat er zich precies afspeelde in de wereld boven hen, was voor hen vaak onduidelijk. Zich onbewust van zijnde dag of nacht, werd hun oriëntatie flink verstoord. In het Huis van de Nijmeegse Geschiedenis is de omtrek van de opgraving weergegeven. Daarbinnen vertoont Sjoerd Mol zijn kunstwerk. Als bezoeker word je onderdeel van het werk: met een kompas ga je de interactie aan met het licht dat om je heen zweeft.

Wessel Verrijt (Eindhoven, 1992) is vorig jaar afgestudeerd met de Optocht Der Autonomen. Met zijn provisorische bouwwerken reist hij als een kermis van plek naar plek. Hij maakt gebruik van sculptuur, installatie, collage, kinetische beweging en performance en bundelt deze tot één kunstwerk. Hij heeft een obsessie voor houtje-touwtje reparaties. Plakband, tape en tiewraps om spullen bij elkaar te houden. Tijdens de Kunstnacht vertegenwoordigde Wessel Derde Wal en met een door hem ontwikkelde processie door de stad razen. Hij heeft zich hierbij laten inspireren door Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
During the art night 2019, Derde Wal will be represented by two artists: Sjoerd Mol and Wessel Verrijt. Not only can you admire Wessel's walking procession in the streets of Nijmegen, but Sjoerd also designed an installation for the House of Nijmegen History in honor of 75 years of Market Garden!
House of Nijmegen History
On Sunday, September 17, 1944, the air of Nijmegen was colored red and blue by the parachutes of American allies. Derde Wal has asked the contemporary artist Sjoerd Mol to create a work especially for this purpose: as a memorial to Operation Market Garden, he has created a grand interactive light installation in the House of Nijmegen History, to supplement the Bivak '44-'45 exhibition there.
Bivak '44-'45 is an exhibition about an underground shelter where Allied soldiers stayed during the Second World War. What exactly was going on in the world above them was often unclear to them. Unaware of being day or night, their orientation was greatly disrupted. The outline of the excavation is shown in the House of Nijmegen History. Inside, Sjoerd Mol displays his artwork. As a visitor you become part of the work: with a compass you interact with the light that floats around you.

Wessel Verrijt (Eindhoven, 1992) graduated last year with the Parade Der Autonomen. With his makeshift structures he travels from place to place like a fairground. He uses sculpture, installation, collage, kinetic movement and performance and bundles these into one work of art. He has an obsession with stick to string repairs. Tape, tape and tie wraps to keep things together. During the Kunstnacht, Wessel represented Derde Wal and raced through the city with a procession he developed. He was inspired by Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
